    Hi
Fcking clutch seems to have gone on car. 130kmiles. because they are changing clutch should i get the dmf done also at this stage ( if its not also gone ). Perhaps it was it that went as I hadn't noticed any real issue with clutch then BAM on fri night wife rings and car smoking, burning smell and wont engage gears. so she turns it off. i do the usual, get it towed to garage etc. It does however go into gear and drive down the lane of the garage ????

but regardless if the clutch is gone and say the dmf is OK would you still swap it out for a new one ? ( dmf's are a stupid price I know )

Either the clutch or the DMF could be gone, but without seeing the car, I couldn't say for sure. What I will say, is not to put a solid flywheel kit into it. They just don't work properly on that model. They seem to work okay on '00 - '03 models only. They won't work properly on later models even with the same engine.
Personally at that mileage I would replace the lot, but then I'm not the one who has to pay for your car.

I'd replace the whole lot tbh

Normally it is a good idea to replace both at the same time as it saves you money in time and labour costs.

    Yes.

If the clutch got roasted then the DMF will be damaged.

Thanks lads. Seems like the proper thing to do is replace the lot.
Yea I wont be going solid flywheel. Ill stick with the norm.

Why are flywheels so expensive though ? 700 notes on Micksgarage and best I saw elsewhere online was around 500 or so..... Its a sickener TBH.

Anyone any good sources for deals on a decent flywheel. LUK or similar etc.

Has your car got the newer engine? The newer one has a timing chain instead of a belt, I think. They changed around '07 to the newer engine, and the kits are probably different. Another way of telling the newer car is that it has the indicators on the mirrors.

Yes its the newer 07 car with the timing chain and mirror indicators.

And tell me, were all of the older models sold before the new model came out? Or might there be a slight chance some were not sold 'till '07?
    Hence my question.

Doubtful that there are many/if any pre facelift 2007 avensis out there.

Those avensis were a popular car and sold well so most pre facelifts would of been sold off in 06.

I haven't come across a 2007 pre facelift yet anyway. Not saying they don't exist though.

lads is a clutch & flywheel replacement something that a local small garage can do no prob or should i get a quote/get it done in toyota main dealer ?

I know it depends how good the local guy is etc. but is it a reasonably straightforward job that once fitted should be hassle free ?

A good indy garage should be able to do the job.

I have seen a good few pre face lift cars registered in late 06 so its possible. My 01 Avensis is the old TD engine even though D4D was available in late 00.
