NUIG Work Placement (PEP) Questions

    Hi just had a few questions about the PEP system in NUIG. Currently in Engineering and have my placement next year. How many people get placement in Galway from anyones experience doing the PEP? Also what is the best accommodation to go for? We won't know until December where we get it in most cases so I will have to go somewhere for accommodation for only the first semester until I find out where I am placed. Any suggestions where is the best for 1 semester? Does Dun Aengus offer 1 semester accommodation at all or half year terms?

    being based in galwya depends on what engineering you are doing. why not try and find a place that has a six month lease and extend it by one month at the end. That'll take you up until the end of March. Also if I were you, I'd seriously look at doing the placement abroad. Greta oppertunity to see somewhere new for a few months. Also looking for your own placement might be an idea. I did that and didn't have to rely on the PEP system

    Yeah might try that, is there any accommodation that would lease for 1 semester outside of student accommodation? I doubt it but I might as well ask

    Because of the demand for accommodation, landlords would be a lot less likely to accept you for one semester when they have people lining up to take it for the whole year. You could sub-let, and re-coup the rent for the last couple of months of the rent?

    It can be difficult to find anywhere that would give you a 6 month lease. From experience, private landlords would be a bit sounder about it than letting agencies, but it depends on the landlord too.
    I'm doing my PEP this year and I've got it in Galway. It really depends on the type of engineering your doing? I'm in electronic and computer and a good few in this course, electrical and electronic, and energy with electrical, got placement in Galway. I don't know much about the other disciplines. Here's a list of the companies that were offering jobs on the PEP site this year;
