Use a different device to surf the internet?

Or more seriously, try the Do Not Disturb feature.

    I assume you have Iphone,

So try do not disturb, but other than that buy an Ipad or other tablet

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Do not disturb won't work if he is browsing the web though. Also I assume he means using his data connection to browse the web so airplane mode won't work either.

You can choose whether you want DND to be active at all times or just when the phone is locked.

Buy a data Sim instead of a phone sim. Shouldn't allow you to make/receive calls.

    Otherwise DND mode.

Get a sim, give no one the number

Just switch it onto airplane mode and connect to wifi. Turn off iMessage too.

I imagine he wants to be able to use mobile data as well.

You can enable it again and leave airplane mode on as well.

Airplane mode turns everything off, but individual services can be enabled in the settings.
