was thinking of buying this car.

seems fairly good value despite the mileage.
    he won't budge below €13,500
uk import, getting irish plates on tuesday.
    nct due next year

    Has the turbo been replaced
    DMF ok ?
    Timing chain issues ?

I had to replace a turbo after 64k miles.
DMFis showing signs of trouble at 115k miles
and I believe 2009/10 onward models have timing chain issues. Other than that a great car!

Basic entry level spec, nothing special about it imo. Is the guy selling it a dealer?

I'm always careful about UK cars that are just under 100k miles. If you are seriously considering buying this car, make sure to do a motorcheck / cartell done on it. You can get 20% off the motorcheck site with this code. CT822021F1 (got from https://www.motorcheck.ie/blog/cartell-ie-coupons-discount-for-cartell-ie-customers/)

Seems fairly basic on the inside as mentioned above, cloth seats, smallish alloys. Any extras?

If he's not a dealer, and he registers it, would you be the second owner in the country?

Did you do a HPI check on it? Why is he selling it if he just imported it? It's a basic spec model, can't understand why anyone would go across to the UK and import the lowest possible spec model that is sold over there.

    Thanks for the advise guys.

Didn't check if he was a dealer. Will have to ask him.

Would the fact that he has the 10 D BMW number plate mean that it is likely that he is?

Anything else to look out for on these cars apart from the above mentions problems?

Climate Control instead of Manual twisty heater knobs for a start! :pac:

The fact he has number plates for such cars would suggest that he dabbles in selling cars whether he is a dealer or not. Just remember that if he is selling cars on the side as a private individual then you have no cover under the sale of goods act.

If it gets Irish plates on tuesday it will be adding another owner before you get it and so potentially devaluing it.

If he is a dealer would he be making much profit on this after paying VRT?

just wondering if its worth popping over and doing that myself.

looking at cars of similiar year and milage they seem to be going for £8000 + €5000 VRT is around €14500.

If it 2010 it needs to be nct'd this year not next year

Depends if he is a Joe Soap getting cars from the likes of auto trader, or if he deals with the trade. If you research it well before going over, you can save some money compared to here.

The guy in the OP looks to be trading what with the cover reg, but being registered is a different story. I wouldn't want to be shelling out so much cash using a part time dealer who most likely wouldn't have a proper warranty. If he is registered and can give a warranty, then do the proper checks that you would do as with an Irish car and take it from there.

He's not a dealer so I would have no warranty.

He suggests I could get third party warranty.
    Would that be worth it?
I've heard before that they don't strand for much it there is a major problem to fix?

Very basic car. I think its overpriced by about 2k. Walk away pal, plenty of better looking girls out there.

a few people have said that to me but I cannot find a 2010 bmw 320d with similar miles for better value.
maybe i'm looking in the wrong place.
anyone got any links to a better value one?

He seems to be one of these lads that brings in a car every so often and sells it.

That's neither good nor bad I suppose.

Here's one he had up before.

    What about going up North:

On your budget you are going to be looking at high milers.

Third party warranties do have limitations alright, so you'd have to check out the fine print. They are common among smaller dealers, but the fact that he selling it privately but is dealing would be enough to walk away. Regardless of what warranty a dealer gives you, you still have certain rights on top of it. With this type of sale however you have no avenue of recourse if there are major issues.

    Thanks for all the advice.
I'm much more weary about going ahead with a private sale now.

What if I brought it to a BMW garage to get it looked at throughly?
If that came back clear would you be confident to buy as a private sale?

I would have no problems in buying especially when you know he part time dealer .ie not some type of scam

If you get it checked out by a reputable garage and they give it the thumbs up then go for it.

You are in no different a position than the man who brought one new in 2010 and who's 4 year warranty is now up.
