Got a dog run built and now I want to put some concrete down, so is it just a case of digging it out and throwing the concrete in? do i need a layer of hardcore under the concrete or sand etc.

Also whats the ratio sand to concrete to use? its about 20 foot sq.

Cannot offer advice on mix but I think you should allow an area for the dog to dig as this is their instinct.

No that's a sign of boredom, dogs shouldn't dig up the yard..

Op put down damp course and put concrete on that (use some re bar to strengthen..

    Mix 1part xncrete 3part sand/gravel mix

For a dog run you don't need to put down a damp proof membrane - presume the dog run is outside?

Also, re-bar would not be necessary for such a small area and its not likely to have cars or other heavy objects over it.

Put down a bit of hardcore or stones and about 2 to 3 inches of cement/sand at about 1:6 and this should be more than sufficient for purpose.

Thanks all, I'm going to cover the concrete in mulch so they can dig at that all day.
