Removing water-based paint from limestone slabs

    Hi,

With the wind that's in it today our paint was toppled over and a fair bit of it landed on our limestone slabs. I've removed most of it through turps and scrubbing hard. However, there's a noticeable amount still dotted across the (lovely, new!) slabs and I can't move it for love nor money.

Would anybody have suggestions for this? Thanks.

You shouldn't have used turps on waterbased paints. Mentholated spirits is what you should have tried. Limestone, being porous probably absorbed some of the paint. What about power washing it.

What type of paint was involved- interior emulsion, exterior weathershield of something else? If either of these I would suggest saturating the area with water and cover with an old towel to keep wet. The water will soften the paint if left long enough and some vigorous scrubbing with a floor scrubbing brush should shift it. I don't think that meths will do any better, unless you were using it to remove a shellac based finish.
