Im buying a new monitor for my 2013 Macbook Air. The Mac only has a Thunderbolt display.

I haven't chosen a monitor yet but the connector options are DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort.

What's the best option for connecting the Mac..is DVI better than HDMI

DVI and HDMI use the same signalling protocol, but typically (there are a couple of proprietary exceptions outside the Mac world) DVI will only carry video data, while HDMI will support both video and audio. They can be converted between by a simple pin-rearranging adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Importer520-Plated-Female-DVI-D-Adapter/dp/B0035B4LJM/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_y

So really it comes down to whether you want to use the audio out on your MBA or on the display as much as anything else. Display port would be the neatest but if it was the only input on the display it limits you to pretty much only Mac computers, which in some cases could be a deal breaker.
