It's a professional tv signal meter. It would be used for setting up tv reception & distribution: signal at the aerial &/or dish, different points in a distribution system, making sure everything is within spec.

    Thanks Rick
Might sound like a silly question but can it decode channels that are protected?

It has Common Interface (CI), so could take a Conditional Access Module (CAM) & card to allow decryption of encrypted content for which you have the appropriate card.

I have one . It's a fantastic bit of kit . Tells me everything I need to know whether I'm doing a simple domestic dish / aerial installation or complex multi satellite and multiple modulated input distribution system with dozens of outputs.
Expensive , but worth it for the serious professional .

    Thanks Rippy
Can you tell me the difference between this one http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-terrestrial-meter.html and promax.
As far as i can see they both do the same job please tell me i'm wrong. Currently i'm self employed as a electrician but need to do more work and thinking about doing this line of work. I know it will not be easy but consider myself capable of doing it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

I have the cheap tvTrade one as well . I bought one to use while my Promax was away for service and calibration . Although fine for basic work and light use , it does not have the all the functions or versatility of the Promax . Not the accuracy or robustness in demanding conditions .
You're an electrician . It's like comparing top of the range Fluke equipment with a €10 multimeter from Lidl .
