    Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I currently have UPC basic with a box that records TV. I would like to move to a system where there are no monthly bills - once off payment and its done.
I hear Freeview is what i am looking for ? , perhaps i have the name wrong. What i want to ask is, what should i know about moving to a satellite only set up, all the pro's / con's. Ideally i would like the following:
    • no nonsense, once its set up thats it.
    • Able to record stuff just like currnt upc box
    • get rte's/tv3/tg4/all the bbc's /C4/UTV/sky news
Basically if someone could just give me some basic info.

You will need two separate lnbs to get RTE and Sky also TV3 is encrypted on satellite

    Basic terminology:-
FreeView refers to the UK terrestrial service using conventional aerials. It is only available in border and certain east coast areas.
FreeSat is the branded UK service available for free using signals from satellites.
The advantage of Freesat is a plug and play setup, 7 day EPG and series recording etc on more advances boxes.
Free-To-Air (FTA) is also free from satellites but uses generic boxes. These tend to be the cheaper, more basic boxes needing occasional retuning and often only now/next EPG data. Most do very basic recording to external HDD.
Irish TV channels (Saorview) are not free on the same (Sky) satellite. It is possible your TV is already Saorview compatible and only needs an aerial. It may even offer basic recording to a HDD. Otherwise you will need a separate Saorview box and aerial.
Many don't like the idea of separate Saorview and satellite boxes and opt for what are known as combo boxes. As the name implies they combine both terrestrial and satellite in one box. Like FTA boxes functionality varies and they need more work to setup and maintain.

you need to go to satellite.ie
I got these lads to put a box in the sittingroom and one in the kitchen and they put a satellite dish on the chimney it cost around €500 but that was for 2 boxes. They use your UPC wires so the whole thing is put in in about half an hour. It has all the channels you mentioned plus loads more, a one off payment and your done no more telly bills Happy days:)About recording I use a usb stick to record it's handy as I can then watch what i've taped on the telly, pc or tablet but there is a thing called a pvr box that you connect to it and that records
