Do these store power even after the power source to them is turned off ? My father was giving the one here at home a bit of a clean out the other day and with the power turned off it still turned on ?

What fuel is the 'back boiler' using?

What sort of back boiler? What is the heat source? How is it usually turned on?

How was it turned off? At what point on the electricity point was the power turned off. Seems like a wiring problem to me.

If you mean a switch on your consumer unit (Fuse board), then there is certainly a wiring problem. There has been something added on (or even there from the start) that is getting power from some other circuit.
