Work is getting me a new laptop. I was supposed to be getting a HP8570P- i7, 8GB RAM, 256SSD but it's currently out of stock for the next 4 weeks and they've asked me to give my thoughts on a Thinkpad T540P-i7, 12GB RAM, 256SSD.

    HP:

    Thinkpad:

I've read reviews of the Thinkpad and they are all negative. A lot of negativity revolves around the trackpad etc. Seeing as I've never owned a Thinkpad maybe I won't be bothered by the absence of buttons.

    Need to decide by Tuesday.

I'll be using it for Photoshop, web design etc etc.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for new laptop as well. I'm using W500 at the moment and I took W540 into consideration.
Unfortunately it's not worth the money in my humble opinion. It's way better to get W520 or W530 for heavy workload and add SSD + more RAM instead.
@shuffles03 T540p is great, but CPU is completely different (on basic configuration) than in W series, so you would have to pay way more for higher spec.
I'm looking for alternatives now and thinking about high spec T530i, W530 or W520 as design and build quality is way better imho than in current models.
By the way, is there any local store in Dublin where they would have Thinkpads in stock?
