Hi, wondering if anyone can clear this up for me. My wife has pneumonia and has to stay in hospital for four nights. Her gp said that as he understood it there is no charge for this but we've noticed a sign on the door outlining charges. Which way will it go?
Thanks (we've just moved back from the uk and tge care in the hospital has been very good by the way)

My Son had to stay in Temple Street for 2 nights as he had an operation and I was charged €150.
He had to go back to the day ward for another operation and the bill was €75.
They are usually very prompt in sending out the bills :(
We don't have insurance and just went public.

There is a charge of €75 a night, it's capped at €750 per family per year. I'm very surprised your GP wasn't aware of this.

In Temple Street they allow you to pay the bill in instalments, rather than all at once.
I'm sure other hospitals have a similar policy:)
And no my Son has to go back in April for another operation,so another bill will follow!! Hopefully this will be the last one:)

As far as I know, if you don't have a medical card or private health insurance it's €75 per night in a public hospital. Glad to hear the care is good. If you have a UK EHIS card then it would be free...

Charge is 75 euro per night up to a total of 750 euro per stay.

If you have a medical card, it's free.
