Had my dentist visit but...

I'm a 22 year old male and went for my check up. First time in years.

Dentist looked at my teeth and said they were perfectly healthy. I told her i'v been suffering from very bad breath. She told me she can see no damage to my teeth because of the bad breath and suggested it could be another health problem or maybe it could be my diet.

So I booked a tooth cleaning for the week after.. This time a different dentist and he says my teeth are fine and he sees no real problems atall.

But i'm just not happy with my teeth.

They are generally healthy but they just seem very yellow to me, particulary in the car mirror and when the sun or light is shining on them. I actually shined a torch at them and got the fright of my life.. I also have a few little white spots on my 2 front teeth. Surely the dentist would have mentioned this though?

Ask your dentist about bleaching, its the most conservative way to improve the appearance of your teeth.

    Thanks,

    bleaching (AKA teeth whitening?)

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but my teeth look a lot worse when I smile in the mirror of the cars.. Very strange.. I guess it could be the light or somthing like that...

No one has truly perfect white teeth, if you want a cheap option get a tooth whitening tooth paste. You can get a small tube for €10, you apply it once a day for 10 days and you will notice it brightens your teeth up :)
Don't forget things like coffee and smoking will stain your teeth.

As to your breath it may actually be your stomach causing the trouble. My father had horrendously bad breath but he cleaned his teeth twice daily every single day. It turned out a food was not sitting right in him and it was causing his stomach to emit some horrid gas. Try looking at what you eat and see if there is something that may cause some issues. You would be surprised you can become allergic to something randomly... trust me I spent the night in hospital a few weeks back with an allergic reaction to something I was not allergic to a month before! :(

    Hi mate,

I found the colgate baking soda toothpaste very good..for whitening and getting rid of the bad breath.. Last time I used it people were actually asking me if I had my teeth whitened.

I asked the dentist and he says it's perfectly safe to use despite me reading the baking soda is bad for the teeth.. I just can't find that dam toothpaste anywhere now though.. It was so good, makes me think they might have stopped making it:o:o

Be careful with whitening toothpaste there abrasive and can damage your teeth in the long run.

As for bad breath could be a build up of plaque calculus, once you have your cleaning and it doesn't change review your diet.

Bad breath could be simply cured by flossing?

It's amazing the smell from the floss after you've done between your back teeth...food trapped there will be rotten...literally!!

Another thing that can cause bad breath is tonsil stones. Basically it's if your tonsils are quite big and have a lot of holes or 'pits' in them, food gets trapped and starts to stink(surprisingly there are a LOT of youtube videos of them) one of my friends suffers very badly from them, and sometimes her breath is rank. She pops them out herself and she said they smell even worse once they're out. If you don't have any other health issues that would account for it, would you try the likes of that CB12 mouthwash or something?

is your tongue, gum or inside the mouth discoloured?? if so try it could be oral thrush. if you go to the chemist they will give you a gel, i got some before and it helped

ok, now it's just guessing. suggesting oral thrush is like saying zebras when you hear hooves. anyway, i'm fairly sure one of the two dentists would've picked up on that.

guessing?? yes - thats why i asked the OP his/her symptoms (please see my previous post!!!). i'm not a dentist or doctor but just trying to help the OP (which i think is better than trolling ;) )as he/she is obviously still concerned, after all isn't that a big part of forums

PS just for the record, the dentist mightn't have picked it up because oral thrush is actually a medical condition, this was the case with me, i asked my dentist and she said it was fine but like the OP i was still unhappy so went to my doctor who prognoised it as oral thrush and prescribed me a over the counter gel which cleared it up. i don't know the OP's personal situation but if the OP wishes i can give him/her the name of this gel but again i'm not a doctor/dentist and i would advise that a trip to the chemist would be beneficial and if the problem still persists a visit to the doctor, but again i'm only trying to help ;)

giving medical advice is also against the charter. i know you mean well, but anyone can read a list of symptoms and come up with anything, especially if it sounds similar to something they themselves had in the past.

ha point taken!! but i've clearly stated that i'm not a doctor or dentist and suggested that a visit to the chemist/doctor is the best course of action ;)
