So my brother sent me a file, it's 110mb and it's mp4 format. Our first problem was finding something that would allow him to send a file that size (and hopefully, a file 1.5g in size - this is the test). I stumbled across wetransfer, which boasts that you can send files 2g in size for free. Should mention, it's to be opened on a mobile, desktop won't do.

So he sent the file, and i got an email with the download link, which has "videoname.mp4" underneath it. So i click it, brings me to the wetransfer page in my browser, shows the download link with "videoname.mp4" underneath, and i click download. It takes it's time, as do most of the free file transfer sites, and once it completes it's now renamed "downloadfile.bin".

I downloaded it on desktop using the same process as above, and it downloads fine as an mp4. Anyone have any ideas? Does Android restrict the size of files you can download? I'm trying it now again, and when downloading it names it in a really long string of letters and numbers of which i can't see the extension.

Or does someone have an alternative site we can use that may no cause issues (i'm slightly against dropbox because it's slow as foook!). Free options too!

Edit: downloaded it again, and it's now called "biglongcollectionoflettersandnumbers".bin

Some downloads in Android come down odd or not complete (e.g video streams that download the cache file) which seems to be similar to what's happening with yours. I highly recommend Google Drive since once the file is uploaded, you only need to stream it from the share link and download it if required.

He tried Google Drive but said it wasn't working, figured out he wasn't setting up permission properly. Got it downloaded through Drive, and then encountered a problem with full 1080p not playing (had audio, no video on the standard player (Galaxy S3), and freezing video with perfect audio on VLC and Dice Player. He re-encoded it to phone specs and it played fine, so i think there's a problem with playing full 1080p videos, at least with the encoding options he has!

    Cheers though!

Well 1080p would be over kill on the S3 screen. Yes theoretical it can and should play assuming its encoded corrected but in this case for speed and filesize, I'd stick to 720p.

You might also be interested in knowing that 100GB Google Drive storage is only $1.99 a month now, I have been using 100GB for a while now and it used to be $4.99 so its ridiculously cheap ;)

Well he was using me as a guinea pig for a promo video for a mate of his (college work/future job training!) and the intention was that it could be sent to, and downloaded on, a phone, but also of high enough quality for people checking it out on desktops/laptops/tv's when uploaded from the phone.

Something to definitely look into, and it works extremely well. Cheers for the info!
