Dress problems

    Hi Ladies

I have been trying to loose weight for some time now and I am currently just a little under 14 stone - total loss of 3 stone over the past 3-4 years.

I have a wedding coming up next month & I am dreading it so bad. I hate, hate, hate the thought of going to find a dress. I was hoping I would be back in size 12 by the time it came round, but with one thing after another it didn't happen.

I'm so conscious about my weight and I just don't know what kind of dress to go for. I hate showing my legs so I'm thinking full length. My OH is looking forward to the day & I just want to look & feel attractive. I'm 29 and I want to be at least a little fashionable.

I made an appointment for hair & makeup this morning, so that just leaves the dreaded dress.

    Hi there OP

I've moved your thread to Fashion and Appearance as it's more appropriate for your query.

    Best of luck :)

Well done on losing so much weight, don't be too hard on yourself you will get to a size 12.
How about these 2 dresses I found on polyvore.
The first one from asos is midi so not showing too much leg. They both are wrap style, which pulls you in at the waist. The v neck is very flattering as it draws attention to the bust.

The second one, even though it is black could be brightened up with some pink accessories.

Firstly, congratulations on your weight loss - 3 stone is a lot to lose and it's always a good idea to lose it slowly rather than on a crash diet, so well done you!
I think you need to bring a fun friend shopping with you! Your self esteem sounds pretty low, you need a bit of a boost and someone to remind you of how far you've come over the past few years.
If you hate your legs, I'd advise trying different skirt/dress styles as well as lengths - it's all about proportion, so you might find a pencil skirt shape makes you look taller and leaner, or that a knee length A line skirt style makes your legs look slimmer. I generally find that a skirt that ends just below the widest part of your legs will give the illusion that they're slimmer all the way up! Of course a maxi dress could be the answer too, but don't rule out all other styles either :)
Also consider a statement necklace or earrings, which will draw attention away from your legs and to your fabulous hair and face :)
Monsoon and Debenhams always have great bits and pieces to wear to weddings, and Debenhams offer a 'personal shopper' or 'stylist' service in most of their stores which could be helpful if you decide to go it alone.
Try to be a bit happier about the whole thing - the only reason you need to go shopping for a dress is because all your old ones are too big for you! Yay!

    Other dress

Oh that one is class, really nice length and the cut would be much more flattering on someone larger than the model.

Could you please post a link to the first dress? It's gorgeous

I love the other one too but would be nicer in a brighter colour.

As others have said, well done on your weight loss, which is a fantastic achievement. While you mightn't be at your goal weight or size yet, you can be guaranteed that everyone you know at the wedding will be thinking how amazing you look.

If you hate showing your legs I'd suggest looking for midi-length dresses as I find full length or maxi dresses can sometimes swamp people and make them look a bit tentish. Obviously there are lots of gorgeous maxi dresses out there and you could well find one that suits you and makes you look a million dollars. But just don't limit yourself.

How about something like this from Asos: http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Wrap-Dress-In-Midi-Length/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3699407&cid=8799&Rf981=3679&Rf1012=4458&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Pink

    Or this from Littlewoods: http://www.littlewoodsireland.ie/berkertex-guipure-lace-dress/1330958965.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f1661%2c22176

Both come to your knee or just below, give you a little bit of upper arm coverage and have a bit of a nipped in waist to show off your slimmer figure.

Just remember that you've come a long long way from where you were 3-4 years ago and you have every right to feel great about how you look. So above all, find something that you love and that you're comfortable in and have a brilliant day.

I will reiterate what others have said. Well done. That's some achievement.
You need to stop being afraid and embrace a shopping trip. I think you should try on loads of different styles and then start ruling things out. Make sure your underwear fits well and maybe invest in some shape wear if you feel like it.
I would suggest going into Coast telling one of the assistants that you are looking for a stunning dress to wear to a wedding and go from there. Let them bring the dresses to you and fit them all on, put on heels and have a look in the mirror outside the changing room(get the assistants opinion too).
I always have preconceived ideas of what will and won't look good on me however sometimes it's the dress you think you would never wear that will be fab.
Be careful of the maxi dress that can just make you look swamped.
    Best of luck!

Edit to say I am not suggesting you should only try coast but they have such a good selection and it will give you an idea as to the type of dress you should be looking for (hopefully!)
