Applying for two different roles with same company

    Hi,

I've applied for a job related to my degree last week. Received a call today for an interview next week. The same company had posted a different role yesterday.

Both roles are for different sectors of the company so have different hiring managers but same HR.

I had planned on tailoring my Cover Letter (As I'd have to as roles are only mildly similar) and then decided this morning not to having got this interview for this role. However, later in the day had a change of heart and applied anyway.

So I sent an email to HR explaining I had applied to this second role today and asked if this would create an issue. She replied and stated that she informed both hiring managers but never really alleviated my worries that they'll see a lack of direction on my part.

Both roles look interesting, the one I've an interview for I've got alot more experience in so thus would be more suitable. However the other role is an area I'd like to break into as it's quite exciting and I'd like to do a masters in it in the future.

So, have I shot myself in the foot by doing this? Anyone got any thoughts on what I should say in the Interview next week as most likely they'll ask me why I applied to the other role.

    Cheers for the help!
