    Hi all

I haven't a clue about cars and I'll prove it with my question!

I just bought a 2005 vw golf , 1.6 basic model I need to pick up some alloys but I can't find online what fit I need.

    I think it's 5 x 100 or 5 x 112 but getting mixed messages when I look it up. Maybe it's both?

I also need to know what size I can go to 16, 17 or 18 inch.

Thanks and sorry for such a basic question.

    Soups

Do you want the original vw alloys or aftermarket ones?

Ideally original VW alloys new or second hand

By aftermarket of you mean replica?

Ya, well any alloy that will fit the wheel hub.

I'm nearly positive that these are the original alloys on the Mk5 golf.

15". I know there's only one, but it gives you an idea.

Cheers was hoping something like these

    Or these would work?

    4 RS6 17" ALLOYS

Is it a case of trying to fit them to be sure?

I'd be thinking they should fit ok, with them both being vw alloys. Someone else here will know for sure!

The first ones won't fit and the second ones do not state the fitment.

OP your car is 5x112 and not 5x100 assuming it's the Mark 5.

    Thanks MC

How do I find out for sure it's a mark 5? Picture below. A few people I asked said I should be 5x100 but not sure how much they know

Assuming its a mk 5 and 5 x 112 is right something like these will work?

Excellent so the two examples of alloys I attached are spot on 5x112?

Last question what inch can I go up to 17 or 18?

Thanks a million I've been reading online since Monday I should have known to just ask here!

    5x112 so.

The gearboxes can be a bit soft on these cars so I wouldn't go mad on the size. 16s would be enough to fill the arches, and try and get something that was available for the golf as it will look better.

These really suit the Mark 5:

I agree, not with standing the fact the are a wheel that only look good on one car the are also 18" and your car will look like a Touareg unless you lower it.

If it was me i'd go for these in 17's i think the are one of the nicest looking OEM wheels out there. (that's presuming the wheels he is selling are genuine)

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/alloyswheels-for-sale/new-16-17-18-vw-gtd-alloys-and-tyres/3993624

I would avoid reps at all costs.

So are you guys saying stay away from the type MC linked ? The 16' alloys?

Could you link a couple you would suggest. I'm a complete novice and just want something that compliments the car

I'd agree that those alloys are the nicest, but €2,700 for a set of wheels?
