    Has the connector actually fallen of the motherboard or does it need to be desoldered?

    Needs to be desoldered and replaced. The internal pin (spigot?) has been snapped off. It's amazing what users can do when they put a bit of effort into it. :)

    I'll order a replacement socket on fleabay as soon as I find someone capable & willing to do the repair.

    Id be able to do it but im in Dundalk it would be worth asking in the console modding forum as a lot of console modders can solder as the best mods are ones you get to use your soldering iron.
