Hi, I am importing a car from the uk. Buying from a dealer.
What needs to be filled out on the V5C, and do I take the whole document with me, or just part of it.

    Cheers Guys

you and the dealer fill in the details and you bring it with you. If he wants to send off the export bit, it won't matter if you don't have the whole document.

Generally correct, except from the fact there is no point in filling any details on V5C. Dealer should just hand it down to you as it is.
Export bit - if it makes them feel better - sure they can take it and post it. Won't do any harm, but that's not the correct procedure.

OP - all you really need from V5C to registrer car in Ireland is first page.

it's always worth filling in the details, especially if it's a private sale, because it is evidence of who sold it to you

V5C is vehicle registration certificate in UK.
You will need this to register your new car in Ireland.

you may also need to produce ferry tickets and dated purchase receipt. VRT exam needs to be booked with NCTS within 7 days of arrival and VRT paid within 30 days

never leave the uk without the v5c its a nightmare dealing with dvla 8 weeks now waiting for v5c

met the seller from hell he had the v5 but refused to give it .van not as described but was using to pick up other items on the way back ,in hindsight shouldhave walked.
    thought could fix items later.
18 miles on clock since mot ,large hole in exhaust ,wipers have to stop in rain ,two threads gone in rear wheel hub (covered with hubcaps),bar that spreads rear brake not engaged on one side of shoe ,brakes about 35% of what they should be ,two bald tyres as well
mot was not worth paper it was written on

but the worst part is trying to deal with dvla thought it would be easy to get.

    Buyer takes V5 with them.
Most dealers over there are aware of this, many private sellers are not (but there is an explanation on the DVLA's website which can be shown to them).
The 'Export section' is only for use if the UK owner is moving abroad and taking the vehicle with them. An Irish buyer cannot technically export a vehicle as they cannot register themselves as an owner in the UK.

When the vehicle is first registered here(taxed, not VRT'd) the Dept of Environment will inform the DVLA that the vehicle is now registered here.
After this if you check the reg on the DVLA site it flags up as exported.
