Changing to Smaller tyre

    Hello all.
I need a quick bit of help please, there's similar enough questions, but just to be sure!
I have 205/55/16 on the front of my 01 9-5. The rear is 215/55/16.
I need a new pair of rear tyres. Would it be ok to change to 205's on the back? There's a fair whack in price difference between the two sizes.
I think this is fine, just checking :)

    Thanks guys.
    Jim

There won't be any noticeable difference as SG said. 205/55/16 is probably the most popular size at the moment so you will get a good deal on a good brand. I have Goodyear excellence on my focus same size and there seriously grippy in wet and dry and there's no traction control on my focus so you'll know about it when you put bad tyres on the front as it just spins them in the wet.

Thanks bpmull. I put a version of good years on the front last year for €170. The back was €130 a corner at the time. I wouldn't be one for cheap tyres anyway, most of my driving is m1.

    Cheers for the reply.

There's no problem changing to the narrower size, just check that the rear wheels are not wider to match the tyres. (unlikely!). Just keep them in pairs if there is a difference in width.

Change from 215/55 to 205/55 is a change in both width and diameter of the wheel.

Most likely will be OK though.

    1.7% difference.

    Nothing really to worry about.
