The average rose to $164,530 in 2013.

Personally I get jealous and/ or enraged when I hear about this level of remuneration.

Not just for bankers either! Footballers and the like getting crazy money also really grind my gears, but specifically these 'bonuses'.

How good a job could you possibly have done to merit this?

    What do you think AH?

I think we should blame jobseekers for jobseeking. Act all condescending towards them. Who's game?

I'm into something that rhymes with banking.

Join an investment bank and bring them in 10 million - I'm sure you'll get a very nice bonus, just like any salesman

That or just become a top footballer and bring huge value to whatever club you join

If ever I was to find myself posting in a thread that had absolutely no bearing on my life whatsoever, this would be it.

Wouldn't say no to it myself.

If you make a bank millions, and they give you a few million as a bonus that's just good business, so what's the problem?
If you're a pro footballer then you have a skill which people are willing to pay millions for, so there's no problem there either.
If you're an average Joe, with no real mathematical/financial skill, and aren't a world class footballer, but want money anyway we have euromillions.

I hate it when the person across from me in a restaurant orders something that looks nicer than what I ordered.

Run, now. Don't ask questions just go. They'll be here in a minute. Myself and others will try to hold them off.

I guess I just find it weird that society values things like this so highly in the face of other, perhaps more worthy professions, which are not awarded the same levels of financial reward.

Do any of these things actually add value to the human experience?

Do they help anyone or anything?

It's not about value added to society, they have the privilege of controlling the creation and flow of money through society, so they can do pretty much whatever they want, as long as there's no political/public will to change it.

Pump a massive property bubble for short-term profits with long-term unsustainability? Well done, massive bonuses.
Property bubble blows up and takes down much of the economy? No worries here's a bailout - oops, forgot to say not to use it on bonuses; oh well.
Long-term economic stagnation? No worries, the banks are doing fine now, bonuses are clearly deserved.

It's not about fairness, it's about power - the banking/financial industry has enormous power over the rest of business/society/politics, and isn't exactly going to just give it up; it's at such a stage now where they don't even have to give a toss about public perception anymore, because they are so politically protected.

Thankfully I'm unencumbered - thought when I buy, don't think it will be in Ireland, if I can help it.

Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth.
But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you
ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody.
Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!
