How much does it cost per race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭GMCI

As far as I know, its no more than €12. It certainly wont be hitting the "dizzying heights" of €15

Great to see this series continuing for 2014. Some excellent racing witnessed last year. Almost as good as the park gallops for putting some zip in the legs.

Fair play to the Road Club for organising. Double props for donating the proceeds to the Junior Tour.

Really looking forward to these. They were some of the most enjoyable race's of the season last year. Nice to have races where you don't have to worry about idiots spending most of the time on the wrong side of the road.

They suit me better than the weekend race's as well, I always feel a just that little bit stronger. My legs are never quite right at Sunday race's after two evenings on my feet at work.

Really like the technical nature of it amazing how much energy you can save if you can carry speed through the corners. Some lads really kill them selves with hard braking then having to sprint out of every corner.

First race tomorrow night. Who's going?

This evenings race start time is now 7pm, and not 7.30pm as per poster.

    Sign on open from 6.30pm.

It's being said on FB that tonights race is cancelled due to a double booking of the Mondello track - haven't seen it mentioned any where else and don't want people to have a wasted trip.

Great race tonight. Rain stayed away :). Big shout out to my fellow A3 riders who worked hard to stay with the A1/A2 group when they caught us. It was pretty hairy when all the groups came together but the race finished in a group, more or less.

If you haven't done this race I recommend it. It's a great experience to race flat out (avg tonight was 41kph) and hardly ever touch the brakes. You can build a lot of confidence after a few of these races in terms of cornering and bike handling, but it's not for the squeamish.

Tonight was my first night and have to say it is great craic. Gonna have to disconnect my brakes though :D

The main A1/2 group never actually caught up. A few jumped and bridged over alright.

I'd be surprised if A4 was 41kph average tbh :)

@ that I thought, I'm not wasting my fee and the petrol it took to get here, so I just prayed the tubeless mucus would do its job. Tyre was soft but held and I managed to finish with the bunch so happy enough. Could do with a bit of practice in corners. Pity to see crash so early too.

I was going to agree with you as it didn't feel too fast last night but when I take out my cool down it was an average of dead on 41.0kph for the A4's.

Whoa! Ok. That's a bit odd. Really didn't feel that fast. That's a mad average considering all the corners

@harrybelafonte - can you not take a lap out in those races for a mechanical?

No idea. I was ill prepared. I missed every turn off on the way there after Clane, passed the entrance, went back, panicked when I couldn't make out if I was to cross the track in the car. Couldn't find the jacks. Realised when we started that I didn't even know how many laps we had to do.

I started knowing I might only get a few laps in, but the mucus worked and tyre stayed around 80-90psi so all ok.

Agree totally - here's the data. Just highlighted the race -taken off 200m at the beginning which is from the car/clipping in and my lap and a bit cooldown.

Was it the corners that actually lifted it, considering we were sprinting out of each one?

What's the story with points re the Bikeworx series at Mondello? Are their points going every night it's held? Or only for your overall place across the series? Or, are there any points going at all?

Im sure GMC1 will confirm in time, but afaik there are points each night, but as its under 50k its only the first three that will get points 3,2.1.

While the RAS is taking place, most open racing takes a rest; however, there is a Duathlon on Wednesday 20th May. For cyclists who may not have had the experience of riding open races, this is a good alternative starting point, provided you fancy running 3km before and after 6 laps of the Mondello Circuit. It might whet one's appetite to take the plunge and enter the Mondello Open Series outright, which returns the following week. At least cyclists could get a chance of riding Mondello even if they don't have a racing licence.

can you enter a duathlon race with a cycling Ireland racing licence? Or do you pay extra for some kind of one day licence
