    Hi,

My situation is probably very silly to most. I setup about three years ago for Vat and my first year i was able to handle all the returns but for the last two years i have had some issues and it all got on top of me and i have not done my returns. I have not claimed for Vat either. I am actually owed some Vat but to be honest i just want to stop and get the weight of this off my back. my part time business has slowed down massively and i feel now i would prefer to pay Vat costs and not be registered for Vat returns etc.

Im sorry if this comes across poorly i have just really struggled with this. I know i should have had an accountant but i could not afford one.

In short is it possible for me to cancel my Vat returns.

    From revenue.ie
A person who has elected to register for VAT may cancel their registration by arrangement with the relevant Revenue District. It is a condition of such cancellation that they pay to Revenue any excess of VAT refunded to them over the tax paid for either:

the taxable periods during which the election had effect or
three years prior to the date of application for cancellation, whichever is the lesser

I would expect that your returns would need to be up to date
