Have you ever had a check up?

So I was being tortured with the Doc McStuffins theme this morning. In it, it repeatedly says "Time for a check up" and while listening to it over and over and over and over and over in my head on the way to work it occurred to me that I've never had one.

Have you ever had one? Like headed along to the GP of your own accord, while otherwise feeling fine, just to get a check up done?

If so, why? What do they check?

Depending on the age factor a doctor can get blood tests done which will cover many conditions as well as check heart/lungs and blood pressure

There is a danger of being dragged in to annual tests by the medics which are nice earners I do believe that from 35 on a male should be getting a full "NCT" on a timeframe recommended by the medics. In particular a colonoscopy/gastroscopy if there is a family history of bowel cancers. Early intervention is vital in these cases.

Pro tip: seemingly it is frowned upon if you run your fingers through the doctor's hair when they're conducting a prostate exam.

    Sure we knew that :)

I think the ladies are more likely to get the regular undercarriage checks since there's usually more involved with the maintenance and general servicing of the apparatus than our male counterparts counterpart. :)

So yes, gynae checks are fairly regular and I've had similar bloods done for a job. I'm awesome too.

I get one every year.... I am getting to an age now where it worthwhile just keeping check on the key indicators to see that they are staying the same.

Normal check ups would be Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and maybe a piss test. A more in depth one (that I have every 5 years) would include an ECG, more detailed blood tests (PSA for example) and depending on the need for it the hands on Prostate check.

People spend a fortune on getting their cars roadworthy every year and forget about their bodies.

My doctor is Chinese, in her late 20s I'd guess. I worry terribly about testicular cancer ;)

I haven't had one (except for smear tests and a blood test last year) in about 8 years!! I'm going very soon though. I suppose you get a bit complacent when you feel fine but that's ridiculous. Have to go!

My doctor says I need regular prostate checks. Pain in the hole.

Just got my bloods done this morning coincidentally! Normally I only go to the doctor when I absolutely have to, but after a bit of nagging from my husband and sister had to bite the bullet. Took about 5 minutes, cost 20euro, results in a week. Getting all bloods, cholesterol, thyroid etc.

Going in two weeks time. Full check up. I think if you're over 35 it's advisable. You never know.

Will probably do it every two years or so.

My doctor is like my mechanic. 'Tighten one bolt, loosens two, I'll see you again in a few weeks my boy.'

In all seriousness, no. I've never just gone for a check up. I've had kind of enough wrong with me over the years that I've had scans and blood tests and the likes. Never specifically gone gone a once over though. They're worth getting I think.
