FOR A FEW DAYS NOW MY RECEPTION FROM SATELLITE ASTRA 28.3 HAS DISAPPEARED FOR A SHORT TIME AND THEN REAPPEARED> RECEPTION FROM ASTRA 13.8 WAS NOT AFFECTED. ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE? ANY IDEAS?

There is no Astra satellite at 13.8, Hot Bird maybe?

What sort of a satellite reception setup have you, multi-LNBs?

Could be an LNB or cable or alignment problem. Have you checked all cable connections and ensured everthing from dish to receiver is secure?

It could be what is known as a Sun Outage, but unlikely if nobody else reported it. But it is the right time of year. I observed the phenomenon on the satellite at 1 West a couple of years back, when there was a predicted outage. I saw the signal gradually fade to zero then gradually build up to full strength again over the course of 15 minutes from memory.

That could be it too, if it happens at a particular time of the day.

Posted this a few years ago too - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=68478606

Realistically, it doesn't (shouldn't) affect reception from the Astra/Eutelsat group as the signal is strong. If your dish position is marginal it could affect it although the outage was at its maximum 10 days ago so the effect is now over.

Sorry, senior moment. Other Astra is 19.2E. Outage was at night so sun hardly matters. I have 1 dish, 2 LNBs., 1 for 19, other for 28. Both back working perfectly this am.

You just killed a good speculative thread :P
Probably a bird roosting on the LNB arm, then....
cue lots of other conspiracy theories.
