DO I need to charge VAT

Interesting thread. I'll take it from here because I face a similar situation:

I work for a company In Ireland, I have my PPS number, and I'm setting a small e-commerce retail business on the side while keeping my job (sole trader). I don't expect my turnover to reach the thresholds set by Revenue (http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/guide/registration.html#section2). If only! :) Therefore, I don't need to register for VAT.

Does it mean that I *don't* need to charge VAT to my customers? I am also a foreigner, this is different in my country of origin, hence my question.

I will keep my full time job. However, for tax purposes, am I considered as self-employed?

    Thanks!

No, if you're not registered for VAT you don't charge it.

The other implication is that you treat VAT on purchases as expenses.
