Using xp on an old inspiron 530, and I'm wondering what the cheapest option is.

Dont want to have to change the pc, is there a cheapish windows 7 available?

I've tried ubuntu run simultaneously but it seemed very slow, but I'm not very tecchy:confused:

Could you tell us the processor and RAM you are running on the PC so we'd have a better idea of what to advise?

Thats a dual core processor which should run Windows 7 reasonably well (but not brilliantly), if you disable the Aero desktop features which you can do easily. Plenty of RAM also to run Windows 7. If you dont want to pay for a Windows license, you could try one of the lighter Linux distros, such as Xubuntu or Lubuntu. They are based on Ubuntu but with lighter desktop environments. Maybe give one of those a try.

Just be aware that your hardware is quite old, and you wont get an optimum experience from a newer operating system. A suggestion would be to run the Windows 7 upgrade tool and see what results come back. It'll scan all your hardware and offer some advice.
