Looking to get a photographer for next January for a small Wedding near Limerick. Just want someone from about 4pm to 6pm to do a few shots before and during the ceremony and a few portraits after. Don't want an album and don't want the photos over produced or photo-shopped for months. Anyone have any recommendations or have a similar experience? And what were the prices/packages like?

Why not ask one of the guests?

There are LOADS of pretty good photographers. You could always try finding someone who is a member of Facebook groups like:

    Dublin Models

Some of the people in that group are professionals, but others are hobbyists with experience. Provided they have a good camera or ideally two cameras and good lenses, some might offer to do good photography at very reasonable rates.

Can I just advise against that. As a photographer myself, I hear this a lot (family, friends, relatives, etc. taking the photos instead of a pro).

And whatever about the 'horror stories' that appear here and there, my big issue with this is that I think it's incredibly unfair to invite someone to your wedding and then say "oh, would you mind working during the wedding, in an extremely stressful environment that, if gone wrong, could ruin our friendship? Thanks!".

I've seen it before myself. Whatever about how handy someone is with a camera, don't ruin your wedding for a guest by giving them hours of work (and thats before they get near a PC to make adjustments).

OP, I'm sure you'll get a photographer easily enough. Most would jump at a short wedding.

    Good advice there!
Along with that, theres other things to consider, like even though most people will have some sort of imaging device at the wedding, lots of phones/tablets etc. are excellent in good lighting conditions but the image falls apart in challenging poor lighting conditions.
    also
They may become; distracted, fed up, drunk, their phone/tablet/camera might malfunction, run out of batteries etc. and miss important shots, remember this is a live once off event. Do you want to leave it to chance?

A good photographer will have backups of everything, from batteries to memory cards to cameras.

Last wedding I was a guest at, i had no camera with me and i think i left the smartphone in the car!
    :)
