Pretty. Pity it doesn't have the matching 6800 crankset tho.

yeah i know! How much to upgrade it to the 6800 crankset? TRP brakes as well?

Uh, only noticed that now. I bought a crank on merlin recently for €180, tbh I can't help feel your paying a bit extra for the Italian name here, their is lots of other brands out there with full groupsets and better wheelsets for that kinda cash imo, And me personally if I was gonna go Italian, their is only one groupset to get really ;)

I understand I probably am paying a bit more for the Bianchi name. They're so nice though!! Ribble and others have great deals but this is going to be my main bike and pride and job so I want it to be a Bianchi! I will be upgrading my winter bike to a ribble next winter though! I was looking at the campag groupset and the mechanic from CRC said that they have more problems with them by a mile than shimano or sram which surprised me a bit, but he was adamant that campag are the majority of their mechanical problems!

Plenty of folk ride Campag with no problems. If you want it, get it. I've broken more Shimano parts than I care to remember, but that's probably cos I've ridden it a load. I do have Campag Super Record on my good bike and it is vastly superior than any Shimano which I have tried (Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra) which I would expect. I've never broken any of it, but it's only a matter of time and use.

I definitely don't understand the comment about problems with Campag - I have it on three road bikes and find them very reliable. When you do have problems the components can be rebuilt as opposed to thrown away.

In terms of the Bianchi - it seems like a lot of money for the bike. Would you consider canyon or Rose bikes?

Bianchi are lovely bikes. I have a via nerone and its worth the few extra quid.

Next bike will be what you are looking at.
Can't go wrong with shimano either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭Jim Stynes

Yeah I was surprised when he said that too. He is the main mechanic though so he must see a lot of problems with compag.

To be honest I have settled on the Bianchi this time. I saw one at the weekend and it is a thing of beauty that it confirmed my decision for me.

The bike is nice, but it's the wrong colour. A Bianchi isn't a Bianchi unless it's painted Bianchi green.

Each to their own, but celeste does nothing for me. This, however...

If you're into Bianchis - and who isn't? - get in touch with Paul at kinetixproducts.com
He has a warehouse full of gorgeous Bianchis - Oltres, Infinito, Sempre.
All ex-pro bikes in perfect nick at really good prices. Some look unridden.
He's in Sandyford and a sound chap he is too.

Can anyone tell me is the front derailleur clamp on or braze on a sempre.pro?

Front mech is a clamp on. This is an awesome bike, super geometry and unbelievably underrated, super race frame. Only let down by chainset but it's priced that you could include a new one and still come in a lot cheaper that competitive prices. I'd love one obviously.
Ps. I hate all this comparing bikes on components alone to decide on value or worth. Does geometry mean nothing most people on boards? Rant over.

I was out of the house earlier and couldn't remember was it clamp or braze, I was getting mixed up with a specialized I have.

Totally agree with you on the geometry, very comfortable but still very racey, im hoping to put a 2015 Campag chorus groupset on my matt black 2014 sempre.

Maybe get them to switch the chainset to an older record or chorus one. Their new Chainset is atrocious looking

i saw it in the flesh on a friends new bike at the weekend, and I really liked it,I put my old sram Red groupset on a Sempre frameset last year,it just doesn't look right,so after seeing my buddies new chorus set up I think I'm going to bite the bullet.ive a good finishing kit on the bike so hopefully the campag set up will finish off the job.

To be fair I've not seen it in real life, or even looked at it properly on a nice bike. I thought the newer dura-ace one was rank too until I saw it paired with a nice frame. Boy was I wrong. Campagnolo usually get things right in the looks dept.

They do in fairness, the rear mech, shifters and calipers look really good, they should look well on a matt black frameset.Ive put FFWD celeste decals on my deep section clinchers also, so the whole thing should come together nicely.

Call me a traditionalist but a Bianchi bike should only come in celeste green. I don't think Fausto Coppi would've ridden a Bianchi in any other colour!

Im a bit of a traditionalist my self, but I think a full celeste green frame can be a bit much,ha!

I don't mind what colour a bicycle frame is as long as it is black /Henry Ford.

Does Paul in kenetix products have some ex-pro bikes in stock? Think he had recently. Might be worth a shot.

So what has the OP decided

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭Jim Stynes

i have over 3000 miles on the sempre now and I love it. Using the winter bike at the minute obviously and I can't wait to get the sempre pro back out again. Id love to upgrade it a little more though, maybe carbon handlebars. Or even a campag groupset! I love the frame though. I have yet to see another one on the road as well so I get lots of compliments for it too!
