hello, wonder could anyone help me or do you know anyone? I have just moved back to dublin for work so I am here monday to friday. I have been doing a bit of jogging over the last few years. I would like to find a personal trainer who will take me running on a monday and wednesday night. I live near the phoenix park. I am not confident enough to join any of the clubs yet. I would appreciate anyone's help. thank you:):)

Believe it or not alot of people find themselves in your situation at first before they actually try the club approach. Most clubs are generally alot more welcoming than you might think. However if you want to go down the personal training route there are a few legitimate options as this country has yet to adapt a more professional approach to coaching.

Here are ones that I would be confident in recommending to people of all levels

    http://www.vinnymulveyfitness.com/running-schedules/

The other one I can think of is

    http://www.perfectpacing.com/

With the second though I am not sure as to how much of the comminication is face to face but Dunleavy knows his stuff regarding training

hello Ecoli, thank you for your recommendations. i just want to get up and running excuse the pun and maybe join a club then. i notice there is a few clubs in my area such as civil service harriers. i have heard of vinny mulvey and will check out perfect pacing.
trying to find a personal trainer is very difficult and they want to charge a ridiculous sum of money. i mean this country is still in recession and travel down to any rural town in ireland and you will see the signs so a lot of these personal trainers are getting carried away with themselves in dublin i think!!!
will check out both of which you have suggested.
what club are you involved with?
    many thanks for your help.

In terms of charges having started out in the fitness industry (not personal training) I can see both sides of the coin. While you may see it by the hour you have to also factor in the prep time for each client (which can be a few hours per session), not to mention the thousands spent on continually upskilling (the fitness industry is ever changing) without factoring in tax, overheads etc. IMO I would prefer someone who took on 5 clients in a week and spent 2-3 hours prepping for each one rather than someone squashing in as many people as possible at a reduced rate in order to make ends meat.

Having said that price does not always correlate with quality and in this regard it can be a minefield.

In terms of clubs there are plenty in the area (Donore, Civil Service, Liffey Valley, MSB) and my suggestion would be to pop along to each and "try before you buy" so to speak to find which suits you best.

I am involved with Tallaght AC myself which is a bit further afield (though would still recommend to people as being worth the travel :) )

Amphibian King in Ashtown also put on running classes in the Park, you could enquire with the shop if that suited you?

hello to you both and thank you.
in fairness you make good points ecoli. i am just nervous of getting involved in a club. just want to find the right fit for me and in fairness there is a fair few options. just have to try and find the right fit for myself. i can run for a good 30 minutes and in the last 2 weeks i have been doing an hour workout with sprints slow and fast. i tried to get in touch with civil service harriers but may just show up on tuesday to see would i fit in. i am not so confident as i envisage a club with competitive and very fast people - i am not beginner but i am not wonderful and i would like to keep fit, do a few challenges and have a chat along the way.
i must check out amphiphian king as well in ashtown. bought a pair of runners there recently.
thank you for your help and valid points about personal training
