Trade in haggle room

    Hi.
I'm thinking of trading in my 04 grand scenic for a ford s-max a little newer. I'm wondering how much I could realistically haggle down a dealer price. 10% , 20%? I haven't experience of it yet.

Another option is to sell it privately and go up north or uk perhaps.

    Thanks

The amount he'll discount depends on what he paid for the car, which is something you'll never know.

Concentrate more on the true value of the two vehicles and the cost to change.

If the S-Max is reasonably priced and your trade in allowance not penal you'll be doing ok.

There is no set percentage when it comes to haggling especially when you have a trade-in, as there are too many factors involved. It all depends on how much the S Max owes the dealer who bought it from the last owner, how much he spent on prepping it for resale, adding warranty, etc. It will also depend on how much he thinks he can sell your Grand Scenic for or has to spend on it to get it into a resalable condition. Given the reputation of Renaults of that vintage a dealer might give you very little for it or some might not fancy doing a deal at all as a S Max would sell a lot easier.

Your best bet is to try and sell the G Scenic yourself and then avail of a straight deal discount on the S Max. Granted this can involve a bit more hassle.
