    Reminds me of a song.

Everybody have fun tonight, everybody Changhong tonight.

BTW, that's not off topic because I mentioned the name of the TV.

This seems very cheap for a 4k TV. I'm not too sure if there is that much 4K content to warrant getting one though.

    Youtube! :)

    nah, you are right.
Just like it was for 1080p, by the time 4k has become ubiquitous there will be a flood of 4k TVs on the market [and from actual makes you would want to buy from...]
Its only the early adapters who rush out to get the latest and greatness.

Yeah ,no content and lower resolution stuff like 480p ,720p and even 1080i looks poor on it due to the upscaling required.

are changhong really that bad of a make, i have to admit it is my first time hearing of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭fleet

Changhong is one of the biggest brands in mainland China.

Every TV I ever owned there was Changhong.

    Not common here.

They're not top tier, but they're not bad.

Aren't these 4k tellys going to be the equivalent to HD ready TV's and 8k won't be far behind?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭paddydriver

Stand looks like a few lengths of rebar with tinfoil around them..

The manufactures will keep pushing out new tech in the hope of recreating the HDTV revolution again but the reality is 1080p is more than fine for most people.
For a normal sighted person a 55" 4k tv will appear to be no better than a 1080p TV at 2 meters distance. To actually resolve all the resolution 4k allows for you'd have to be about a meter away from the TV.

As with most things the actual base technology of the TV is better than older 1080p tvs so there will obviously be noticeable improvement in things like colour / black reproduction, response rate etc. which people attribute to the 4kness of the TV but as a format 4k makes more sense for massive wall sized TVs / projections but not the current size of living room TVs.

100hz? Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Motion blur galore.

Also Pixmania is notorious for using sh*tty couriers that don't know how to handle a TV.

Would this be as good as a Sorny or a Panaphonics?

I would seriously doubt it. The refresh rate alone is crap.

It would be as good as a magnet-box.

There is a good chance the screen in side the tv is made by an other big company as most of the time when you buy a tv or laptop the screen's are all made by the same company.

Haha, haven't seen that Simpsons episode in years..

I don't know what to say about something like this. It does appear a bargain but I'd be a lot more comfortable spending that sort of money on a 1080p slightly smaller set from a reputable manufacturer that would probably be a far better set in every other sense than resolution. And in any case, 1080p on a decent 55" TV would still look class and probably be sharp enough for anyone. We've waited long enough for RTE HD, wouldn't wager how long we'll be waiting for RTE 4K :D

The stand looks like a poor copy of a Samsung stand.

The Samsung UE55F9000 is a nice 55" latest technology TV for anybody who has 3250 loose change in their back pocket !! I believe it has a 5 year guarantee with Currys but the DID Electrical website states only a 1 year guarantee

Says 'temporarily unavailable'. But I see the price have come down to €799. Tempting.

I was following the thread on HUKD, and the only guy who ordered there got a damaged set, and pixmania refunded him as they were out of stock. The first actual feedback from a buyer I have seen is from symbol1.

symbol1, can you please do a detailed review about what you think of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭Soarer

It's also reduced by €200, down to €799!

    By anyone's standards, that's cheap for a 55" tv, let alone a 4K model.

It is tempting, really trying to hold off until there's a breakthrough with OLED before picking up a new TV though. A 1080p OLED can rival, if not actually beat, 4K LED TVs so can't imagine how good a 4K or 8K OLED would look. At that point I think we'll really have reached the perfect balance and we'll be able to pick up 80" and bigger TVs for a couple of grand. Nobody seems to be in a rush to put out 4K content though so there's that.

if i had the chance again I wouldn't bother with this tv..there is motion blur..it's very slow to boot up..I have found bad audio lag on some channels...Sky hd channels are great and videos from YouTube are fantastic both hd and 4k... the smart tv os is pretty crap....I mostly just use chromecast .which is brilliant..the tv looks the part..stand is great. The 3d is brilliant..two pairs of active glasses provided...the remotes aren't standard..so you can't use your sky remote to control the t.v.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭Pique

This is a good comparison of definitions.

Now imagine upscaling SD (or even 720p or 1080p) to 4K without an amazing engine. <shudder>

Oh and yeah, UHD <> 4K. They just use the 2 terms interchangeably, even though they're not the same.

    Back in stock @ €799!

Seriously tempted by it as a little present to myself.

    100Hz?
Aka- impossible to watch sport on this?
    Can someone confirm?
The refresh rate appears to be ridiculously low........

Do you know if this TV uses the same panel as the Samsung UE55HU6900? The Samsung has terrible motion resolution which mach up with your comments of the Changhong.

I'd wait until the above is clarified mate as I wouldn't want this as a Christmas present for myself if the motion resolution is as bad as it seems!

not sure about the Samsung panel.... watched a few soccer matches in hd and it's not too

Indeed, way too low. You will be getting motion blur on anything even remotely fast moving. Waste of money and no way would I give away a grand of my hard earned cash to a no-name brand.

It's only no-name over here. They're fairly big in china, which kinda means they're fairly big overall.

    Plus, it's €800, not a grand.

bad. the audio synch was very annoying at the the start..that's the worse thing..but doesn't seem to effect the hd channels..but if I had to go again I don't think I would get this
