    Hi guy's.

currently thinking of upgrading my alu giant defy 2 on the btw scheme. My lbs has recommended the De Rosa R838 Veloce at a reduction given it is the 2013 model - from €2600 to €2150. its fully carbon with campag veloce. I've never heard of de rosa before today but he tells me they are well known on the continent. any advice you have would be appreciated. bike will be mainly used for sportive and the odd triathlon. a link to the same bike on wiggle is http://www.wiggle.co.uk/de-rosa-r838-veloce-2013/

    thanks

De Rosa are a well known Italian brand. If I had this sort of cash to spend, I would go to Ribble - same frame, different brand.

    http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/bbd/road-track-bike/ribble-gran-fondo?part=BB13RIBGRANFONDO&sub=conf_BBRC&bike=1#Wheels

As an example, better Campag groupset (Athena) and decent Campag wheels for example on that option saves about a grand.

Edit - got carried away on the link and chose Athena EPS. Can only dream.....

You sure about that? De Rosa has internal cable routing and a tapered steerer.

Perhaps just an urban legend. http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40042&t=12829744

But sure you can't believe what you read on t'interweb. For 2,150 odd quid there's better value out there, particularly if OP isn't too concerned on brands. My 2c anyway.

You linked to the Ribble Gran Fondo not the Stealth.

Ok sorry the stealth it is. Can't seem to find it on their website. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-ribble-stealth-11-custom-build-44609/

OP if you're getting the De Rosa on the BTW scheme, it may be handier to go to the LBS. It will certainly be a massive step up from the Defy. Sorry, I was just pointing out that the same frame sometimes exists across different brands and there's perhaps more bang for buck to be had out there. Not for everyone if you're tied to the BTW.

Thanks for all your help guys. It's very much appreciated. I'm very undecided. I had originally gone with the giant tcr composite 1 / advanced 2 in mind but was talked out of it by lbs. how would you guys rate the de rosa v tcr composite which is all ultegra albeit a lower grade carbon of the giant range, external cabeling, etc but coming in at €1999.

I don't like internal cabling with a mechanical groupset. It's more difficult to service, shifts worse and can rattle on some bikes. For Di2 it makes sense as the bends don't affect the shifting and the cables don't need servicing. So that's a plus for the Giant.

There is a lot of choice at 2k and you're unlikely to buy a bad bike.
