I've been offered a late year 2000 V40 2.0 with 124k miles on the clock for free.
Apart from the brakes not being great it is in good working condition and is clean and tidy.

What is your opinion of this car and what does one need to look out for with the engine?

    I haven't had a test drive yet.

Great car altogether. Had one around that year myself and enjoyed it. Went up to 180K miles I believe before I had to let it go.
For free I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

put a test on it ,and you will make 800/1000e not a bad return on something you got for nothing......

Plan would be to give it to a family member who needs a solid car.
