Have you some where dry to keep the pellets? Can you buy in bulk? Pellets are a lot dearer to buy in small bags.

yes ive somewhere to store hem in the shed
ive been talking to two people that have the boilers in the shed and they said its
now cheaper buy 10kg bags by the tonne
    than bulk loose
the pellet stove im thinking of getting in is for in the house
so pellets bagged is more convenient but saying that if its a ridiculous price il buy loose and use a bucket

    Hi Dahti
Nice looking boiler. Did you read the spec on boiler ?
    Total heating output : 18kW
    ~ to the hot water : 15kW
    ~ to the room : 3kW
    Efficiency : 90%
Pellet consumption : 1.2kg to 4.2kg per hour
Electrical consumption : 25 to 190 watts per hour.

The boiler size is 18kw which would be approx 77.600 btu;s. to get a good heat for that size boiler you will have to really feed the pellets at the higher level of consumption rate for around the first 2 hours. That is a lot of pellets depending how long you will have it lit per day. You would have to buy in big bulk. 10 kg bags in tonnage will be very expensive as to buying bulk loose. Check out your figures and shop around for prices.

thaks north west the reason i suggested that model is because the shop recommended it for my house
maybe he was incorrect the spec in the house is

we have 11 rads 6 double 4 single and a towel rad.... the house isnt zoned and currently running oil and solid fuel... theirs only a kind of zone where the rads can be turned off completely just to heat the cylinder

the bottom floor is 150 m2 and the attic which isnt converted yet is 90m2.. the BER is C3
house was finished been built in 2008 started in 2006

Not always the case. It costs roughly €780-800 for a bulk delivery of pellets (3-tonne) While the same quantity in bagged pellets can be bought for €900. A difference of course, but you also have to count the price of the pellet storage, a proper silo can cost anywhere between €2000-€3000 fitted.

Bagged pellets are often more convenient too as you can buy as much or as little as you want but in bulk with Balcas it is a 3-Tonne minimum order.

Storage for bagged pellets is simple enough, any waterproof shed and placed on a pallet would be fine.

    €120 difference is 15.4% that's a difference to me.

Hence why I acknowledged a difference. Bearing in mind the expense of fitting a suitable silo to store bulk pellets cannot be ignored and thus increased the overall cost of having bulk pellets delivered!

    OP,
I've had a Kedco wood pellet boiler installed in my garage for 7 years now. over the years it has had a few hiccups, nothing major so far ;) I can't help with the stove you have linked to but what I can comment on is the actual price of pellets. The fact that bulk delivery is cheaper than bagged is slowly changing as the bulk pellets have increased in price. WHen we purchased I think bulk pellets were €160 a tonne, now they're probably €270-300. If you look around you will get bagged pellets at that price either on special offer or as you state yourself a regular price (Any chance you can give me the name of that hardware place ?) I built a storage box in the corner of my garage which is now redundant as I will probably never buy bulk again, why would ya when you can pick up as many or as little bags as you want for similar money rather than having to dish out almost €900 for a load of bulk ??

I'm gonna buy either a plastic barrell or wheelie bin, cut a hole in it and run my long auger from it as a hopper, easier to load than a 4 tonne silo !!

The pellets are a cheap source of heat imo, if I had oil I'd be spending twice what I've spent over the years of pellets.
