tv screen on sky continually showing numbers

Could someone please tell me how to get rid of a type of phone number in the top right hand side of the tv picture on all of the sky channels, the number is [removed] it only popped up yesterday while my nephew was watching sky sports, it is on every sky channel but not on saorview.

Did you try going into settings and checking to see if something was selected that is causing that.

Its the viewing card number and you can't get rid of it. The idea is that Sky can identify and cancel the subscriptions of those illegally streaming on the internet.

OP as it is your viewing card number I've removed it for your own protection

I just checked to see if it was my card no. it was not, i never even thought of that, thanks for the quick reply, i did go into settings and had a look around and could not find anything, it is not hooked up to a phone line, maybe my nephew was doing something with the red button or something active with sky sports, i just found out there is a sky betting channel he might have been on, but with no phone line or connection to the internet it might not have been him.
He told me that when he watches sky sports a series of numbers will appear at the top of the screen sometimes, but they usually go after a few hours,
Is their something in settings that can do this to all the channels, maybe i will ring sky tomorrow and see what the problem is.
Was just on the phone to them on saturday trying to get a better deal, as had just come off a twelve month contract which in itself was a good deal, i wonder did that have anything to do with it.

thanks icdg i was wondering that as well, i have two boxes and it is not any of them,
one hd box and a normal sky plus box in the kitchen, also have a sky box in the attic for the free channels with a freeview card in it which i got from setanta ireland a few months back and it is not that viewing card number either. thanks for being on the ball with that one.

Nope, its not the card number.

I had this problem a couple of years ago and had to ring Sky to get rid of it.

Finally got rid of that number, i unplugged the box for a few minutes and turned back on again and fingers crossed it had gone, i hope it stays gone, i was worried about it burning into the screen more than anything, at least when you watch different channels their logo would be in a different position, but that number was in the same place on all the channels no matter what you were watching on the sky box.

It's not the viewing card number alright, but it does relate to the account, supposedly in case your box is being used illegaly in public premises like a pub. So the "inspectors" can come in, see the sport is on, with the number to relay to Sky (Sky probably wouldn't be allowed to show the real card number, nor let inspectors know it, for data protection reasons).

Only way I have been able to get rid of it is to pause the program for a few seconds, then it just disappears.

Another way is to hit "backup" or (if it's persistent) to use other channels.
