Reputable people, been around a long time under different guises, suprised it hasn't been done before. Basically long term rental of not new cars.

Not to be smart or harsh, but they have bounced from pillar to post within the motor trade over the recent years. According to credit rating sites the original founding business is in liquidation since 14th Feb. So some of the claims on the site are already sketchy.

Pay as you go autos ltd is only founded Jan this year, i wouldn't be giving them €1000 upfront. I could see it very quickly going tits up, the car being repossessed by the liquidator and your €1000 + your monthly payments being worthless.

The protection afforded by traditional HP is far more beneficial than the flexibility or cost savings of this new type of "financing".

They are not the first to do it. I am nearly finished my 2 year rental on a car from Cloughran Car Sales in Dublin.
Not a bad idea, but does not really work in Ireland for a few reasons.
1 Most insurance companies will not insure a car you are not the registered owner of (would not be an issue if you do not state it, but would definitely be an issue if you have to claim)
2 NCT now officially requires the VLC to be produced, (i managed to get away with it, but it depends on who you get on the day)
3 as it's a rental t&c's of mine stated I could not leave ROI, so going up north is not officially allowed.

I don't think it took off as they are not advertising as many cars on the scheme as they did 2 years ago & the official website for the scheme www.renttobuycars.ie has not been updated for a long time.

I subscribe to a similar scheme - I call it bangernomics. You still pay the €1000 up front, but then the cars fully yours.... Schemes like this mystify me tbh.

from the FAQ page, sounds like while you are paying for the car, you wont be the owner so seems these 3 points from @ffocused are valid points
Q Do I actually own the car that I am paying for?
A Yes. Ownership remains with the client once the sticker price is paid in full.

Q Is this just a rental scheme?
A No, this is a slow track to ownership.

Complete rude time wasters - Pay as you go auto. Avoid them as plague.

If you have an actual issue with them then maybe Consumer Issues is best. Digging up an old thread to have a dig at a company with no details or explanation is not ok.
