Your driveway tarmacked for free

Nenagh gardai have warned people to be on the watch for what they described as a “tarmac gang” laying tarmac in people’s home without permission.

A Garda spokesman said they had to warn the gang to “clear off” from one house and said the gang was especially targeting elderly people.

“They are starting to lay tarmac without being asked,” the spokesman said. “If they arrive at your house, we advise you to ring the Gardai immediately.”

Nenagh gardai can be contacted on 067-31333.

I would probably wait for them to finish the job and then ring the Gardai.

Your driveway would be ruined. They don't use any hardcore, membrane or anything like that. They just f*ck a load of tar down and smooth it out. It looks fantastic for around 12 hours until it starts to break up leaving you with a giant costly mess you will have to pay to have taken away.

Happened to an elderly neighbour of mine a few years back. They laid the tarmac despite not being asked to, and when she refused to pay they sprayed tar on her car and windows causing thousands of euro of damage.

The gang then disappeared never to be seen in the area again, although I suspect its the same crowd at it again (not too far from Nenagh myself).

Given they are likely members of our indigenous nomadic tribes. I'd expect they wouldn't be too impressed if you refused to pay them. And given they are big fans of the barter economy, they may take your car in lieu of payment.

Go away, and do not darken my door or driveway again.

Are we allowed to imply that they may well be members of our oft-maligned caravan-dwelling brethren?

    No. That's the whole point.

Only vulnerable peopel can be persuaded/intimidated to pay up.

You or I would most probably laugh in their faces and tell them to fluff-off.

I'm surprised a certain lobby group haven't been on Matt Cooper complaining about the Gardai preventing their members from making a living.

I know many of you despise travellers, but keep it to yourselves and stop with the insulting posts here.

Are they sure it wasn't the local county council gang dumbing excess tar from the roads?

Why didn't the guards investigate them? If they knew it was a con and found them trespassing on someone's property they could have arrested them for something. Even if the guys said it was a mistake ask them for the details of the person they meant to call to and for the paperwork associated with that job. When it doesn't appear do them for working under the table.

The appropriate punishment would be to tar and feather them, convenient too seeing as they were good enough to bring all the equipment with them.

Presumably because the chances of them serving any longer than an afternoon in a cell are fairly slim thanks to daft sentencings and overcrowded prisons.

let us all converge on some randomers house tomorrow tarmacking away like others do and watch how quick we get arrested, a charge sheet back from the DPP and no matter how overcrowded the prisons are they'll find room for us FACT
