marry a different ps3 bluray logic board to console

I bought a PS3 which had the original broken bluray drive thrown out with the logic board still attached . When u plug the new logic board back into the console the disks will accept , spin and eject but wont read . This from what i know of it is normal and to be expected .

The console is a CECHC , ( launch fat 60 gb backward compatable ) , the logic board is BMD - 001 , ( this i know from another indentical console is the correct board )

Through my research ( hours of googling and youtube ) it appears that its only possible to remarry a differnt logic board if you are running CFW .

Is this the case or is there some way of marrying them that im missing out on . I also cant understand why sony want to make it so tough . Well i actually can and the only reason i can think of is greed , what happens in yrs to come when u want to dust off ur old ps3 for a trip down memory lane only to discover ur logic board has croaked .

thanks @whiterebel , that was me askin bout it again . i got my own one working and now ive another immaculate launch day PS3 but no logic board ( i even managed to get another bluray drive i had working by switching the laser from yet another broken bluray ) and i cant bring myself to scrap it for want of a 5 Euro logic board . In yrs to come the launch fat console will be the one to have simply for the backward compatability

So you have to get the same model Blu ray drive and board :

    Blu-ray Daughterboard

The Blu-ray drive's controller board is coupled with the PS3 it came in, so you cannot swap Blu-ray drives (along with its controller) into another PS3 without having the identification numbers corrected on the controller of the drive (and/or motherboard of the PS3). You can, however, remove just the drive (without controller) and swap it into another PS3 without problems as long as the drives are similar. The following are the Blu-ray daughterboard serial numbers matched with the motherboard model.

    CECHA: BMD-001
    CECHB: BMD-001
    CECHC: BMD-001
    CECHE: BMD-001
    CECHG: BMD-002
    CECHG: SEM-001 1-875-384-21 : BMD-003 1-875-350-31
    CECHH: BMD-003
    CECHJ: BMD-00?
    CECHK: BMD-006
    CECHL: BMD-021
    CECHM: BMD-0??
    CECHP: BMD-0??
    CECHQ: BMD-0??
    CECH-20xx: BMD-051
    CECH-21xx: BMD-0??

You knew this already though, I get all info from here:

I can only add that you don't need to be on CFW to remarry new logic board, it can be OFW 3.55 ;) Anyway you need downgrade your PS3 to OFW/CFW 3.55 and put PS3 into Factory Service Mode and remarry new board.

thanks man , yeah i have the correct daughter board for the drive i have ( the BMD - 001 , just as a side note the BMD - 002 , thats found in some of the CECHG models looks very similar but there are less chips on it , i was told they are partly what makes the CECHC backward compatiable )

I was just hoping there was a way to remarry the board on a machine running over OFW / CFW 3.55 ,

Thats the answer i was kinda expecting , ive been quoted 70 euro or so to get it flashed to 3.55 to remarry the daughterboard but ive 3 working ps3 at the min so cant really justify the spend at this stage , really cant understand why its such an ordeal to change whats a pretty small board

BTW - was quoted 70 for it as it has the NAND chip which apparently takes longer / is trickier to flash than the NOR

So you can downgrade to remarry the board, can you upgrade to the latest firmware then?

as i understand it downgrading is the tough part , u need a flasher and need to know what ur doing . ( apparently u can brick ur machine if u dont know hat ur doing ) Upgrading is pretty simple after , as far as i know u can simply go online and download the update same as if u were updating for a new game . But if u had id downgraded it would prob be more valuable to u on the older firmware .
Im kinda thinkin i might keep it as is for the min , cant justify spendin the money when ive already other working consoles

Yes you can. After downgrade PS3 needs to be dehashed and after you can install any FW.

what is dehashed ? Im still only learning as i go along :D

After downgrade you can instal only modified firmware that has been modified for downgrading or PS3 will get rlod. Dehash will bring back PS3 to normal and you will be able to install any CFW/OFW.
