I always used acid or powders when making silage in Ireland but I went to buy some on Friday and there was nothing available to buy. I was told that they were only gimmicks!!

Nothing around here either. One guy put a powder applicator on the harvester, and has never used it.
As Mahoney said a run of a Tedder and get it in in 24-36 hrs. A good wilt but not too much sun.

Spent many summer holidays with silage contractor and the amount of Formic acid used was crazy. Then it moved to powdered innoculants and now ye tell me there is nothing used. Mad.
Pitted 55 acres of first cut that was really green and lush with crimson clover so I would have liked an additive for peace of mind. Wilted for 48 hours though.

A lot of boys were cutting later in the year with a stronger crop of grass. Less carbohydrates in the grass. With the amount of carbohydrates in the grass theres no need now I would think. theres still some lads using it, applying molasses to the pit etc, but none around here.
