Knock on doors lad your 51. Just ask farmers and talk about the weather they will relate to you more. They are actually a prity nice and friendly community to be honest.

Through business and family commitments, plus my own father's long term illness I lost touch with the sport. We had a hugh permission that suited our needs but it unfortunately was 'all eggs in one basket' scenario and when it went I lost everything. I started back with clay shooting, made a few connections, got my foot onto some land and from there my permissions grew, all by word of mouth.
I've been called out 4 or 5 times this year to shoot pigeon over rape each ending with disastrous days but its all about been seen and heard, now I been told of new land that will need protection. Get out and shoot the lands, let the land owners know your out there, ask them if theres someone else needing help, they all know each other. They'll tell you to drop up to 'such and such'. I always try to get phone numbers and ring in advance of going up so they know your there. It's can be slow but often you'll get 'Paddy needs a fox delt with' or 'I've a few fields 10 miles over.........
As to money, don't, come Christmas I drive around with sweets, wine and venison. Every one will get something even if I have only been up one or twice and its amazing how much its appreciated.
Sorry about the long winded answer, but I was devastated when I lost my permissions and thought it was over, so being there know.
PS get a cheep shotgun and make yourself more versatile aswell as increasing your fun.

First, brilliant pic, think the 17 would be a little under powered here......

Secondly, spot on with the ice breaker. I'm usually f#ucked here if there was a Dublin match recently as no doubt the conversation turns to GAA......so the weather is my go to topic........

Don't involve money, financial transactions can seriously muddy the waters. Have your insurance in place, deal with the vermin when you get a call, don't be shy knocking on the door at stupid o'clock when you see livestock in trouble or other shenanigans around the farm, give a hand with covering the silage.......In short; be a decent lad among decent folks and word of mouth and a nod and wink will do the rest.

This. You already know the people you shoot for, makes it far easier to approach someone else if you already have a reference from someone who knows them.

    Best of luck.

What about joining your local gun club, kill two birds with one stone,
Get to meet people and plenty of land to shoot over,
