This O'Greens Day thing in the US goes back a couple of years, I've read stories relating to it in the past couple of St Patricks days.

The 4 leaf clover replacing the 'Holy Trinity' Shamrock is something else that's creeped in Stateside.

Glasgow Celtic used to have the shamrock on their crest, but in 1938, they changed it to the four leaf clover.

the band was formed in the 80s by a few lads from Berkeley, a pretty standard teen garage band who just happened to make it big. Nothing manufactured about them.
