Install from disc, gets to expanding files 96% and stalls. Hours later i pull the plug and try to start again. Bootmgr is missing. Windows isnt installed. No options available to me will fix the issue with windows disc. Linux disc never even boots. Changing drive order does **** all.

    Any ideas?

Thanks. On the upside, i found the fault. Memtest86 looks like a stop light with all the red I'm seeing. Back to Amazon it goes, and one black mark for Crucial.

None of my boot CDs are getting anywhere. **** Windows installers. Even Ubuntu is stalling.

If you have more than one ram stick pull the bad stick and have a go one more time.

Already did. One stick is fine but the damage was done. Reading up on UBCD now. Managed to clear all the windows crap from the disc but still getting STOP 0x0~0A whenever i try to install.

Could be a bad DVD disk, or, I presume you are trying to keep a linux partition or something? If not, installing it shouldn't be a problem on a healthy, freshly formatted hard disk.

Nope. First thing i did was try to dump any partitions. It went a bit deeper than the partition table.

Managed to get into windows disc Startup Repair. Hopefully it can fix what it ****ed up, otherwise... Even Ubuntu can't get as far as Disc selection without errors.

I had a bad experience with dual booting Mint and Win7. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but at the same time I tried to uninstall Mint from the system the computer couldn't see the hard disk any more. Strangely, when I switched from AHCI to legacy IDE the disk magicly reappeared.

    FIXED!

Win7 disc, repair tools, command prompt, BootRec.exe. Learn it. Learn it well.
