Hi all as stated above im looking for a celica vvtli 190 engine for sale. So far the cheapest i can find is 700 and seems a bit pricey to me. Preferably milage under 130k on it. Also does anyone know what other engines would fit the celica comfortably enough. Not looking for the vvti 140 engine couldnt go down to that after driving 190.
    Thanks in advance.

Could you rebuild it instead? A 2nd hand could be just a big of lemon if not worse

What would the cost be to rebuild though ?

What exactly happened to the engine?

Is it burning excessive oil or did the pistons clash with the valves?

I'll put it this way: I'd have more faith in an engine I knew was refurb'd rather than an unknown 2nd hand engine

The bearings went in it. The engine was running perfect up until this happened and regularly serviced. I think its the bottom end of the engine is damaged as the top half has been taken apart and no damage found. Wasnt burning excessive oil and i checked it religiously once a week.

your right they gave bottom end trouble more than likely the big end bearings are gone and may have scored the crank (hopefully not).If it was me i would rather spend the seven hundred getting the bottom end of your engine rebuilt. There is a guy on Donedeal who rebuilds the vvti engines and advertises there might be worth getting a price of him.As others have said you might be putting in an engine that is not far off the problem you have now as they all give big end trouble in the end

Without seeing the crank it'd be hard to know how much damage was done.

Your best bet is to talk to a few engine builders and get a few prices

the mechanical work is not a prob as the father is a mechanic. He just hasnt had the chance to check it over properly yet. So minus labour what cost might you be looking at for the re build ?

Would you not ask the father??

You'd need shells and rings to begin with. HG, poss a chain too (chain, yes?)

Hopefully the crank isn't scored otherwise its a regrind

Head pressure test and check its level

Then basic servicing items/silicone/aux belt etc

I can't quote Toyota prices as I don't work with them, you'd be looking a few hundred for those parts and services I'd imagine

Cheers pacman, I wasn't being smart with that comment rather that I'm sure as a mechanic, he's either rebuilt or sent a few engines to be rebuilt.

Probably better to get a specialist engine rebuild place to rebuild the short engine or probably better to get one that's already been rebuilt by Toyota or more correctly, has had the short engine (block) replaced by Toyota.
