Rigid forks?

Hi, just looking for a steer from those in the know. Thinking of replacing my aging MTB which is getting a bit knackered. I use it for cycling around forests etc., but not into riding steep or rocky or rooty trails etc. Weight is an important consideration as often have to lift over gates and fences etc.

Looking at most MTB bikes now, standard models seem to have suspension on the front forks etc., which adds weight to the machine. Can anyone recommend an off the peg model with reasonably light rigid frame, 26" wheels, decent gears and disc brakes? I'm not looking for anything fancy or pricey, just a decent strong bike that's minimum weight.

Thanks for any advice you can give, appreciated.

Edited to add: my current bike which has Reynolds 500 tubing, I think - very worn graphic - weighs c 14kg or 31lb including mud. I wouldn't want anything heavier than this as the old back is not as good as it used to be :)

Any reason why you're specifically looking at 26 inch wheels? If you go larger, you open up the possibility of a hybrid. A lot of hybrids can take fatter tyres. No matter what your requirements are, you can amost be sure that there is some class of a hybrid-MTB cross designed to meet your needs.

Cheers, I'll look into the Sunn above - no weight given as far as I can see on website. Any idea what it's about?

Ya it would help if you posted your budget. Also if your buying local or off the web as I imagine most decent Bike Shops will swap put a rigid fork on for you.

Or to un-restrict your choice you could buy your own:

Thanks - that's a sleek looking bike alright. Budget? Looking at 'mid range' type model - wouldn't want to spend a fortune since I sometimes end up dropping the bike here & there and going off on foot, return, carry on etc.
