Heard engine making a load sort of chucking noise yesterday. And when I went out to look at it tonight discovered its leaking oil and seems to be oil around the lower part of the engine.
Any ideas as to what it can be lad?

is the car petrol or diesel?

Is the oil leak new is there much oil on the ground under the car?

Any warning lights on the dash?

Check your oil levels first, if you have no oil in the engine its not good and if its starting to make noises its probably gone too far..

If its petrol if could be an ignition module going, very common on the focus to go, they also leak coolant from the frost plugs in the cylinder head this can cause the car to miss fire too, thermostat gasket leaks on them too is it def oil could be coolant too?

    Thanks for the reply.
Its a petrol car. No lights showing on dashboard. not sure what the liquid is. Tbh I know nothing about cars, just listened to the noise when wife returned from work tonight and had a quick look under and I noticed the liquid.

try to get to the bottom of the noise, could be serious issue, left hand side leak can be blown oil seal on pulley side, easy enough job to replace. If its oil on the bottom of the engine then failing sump seal might be.

Hope to get it to garage tomorrow. Its about a 15 minute drive. Would it be ok to drive that far in it?

depending on the noise really, if its metally, clunking, banging, knocking from WITHIN the engine then not
