vacuum gauge

I don't often use my vacuum gauge and when I do it is usually to to see of there is the presence of vacuum or not. I never pay much heed to the figures. My gauge has never read zero. Is it faulty or is there something I should be doing to zero it? There is a label on the edge saying that the rubber bung has to be pierced, but that had already been done and it still reads -.35 bars (or minus 10psi)

AFAIK should be zero (mine is) also doesn't look like there is any liquid in that gauge, most good gauges have.

Atmospheric changes can move the pointer, but it should still be at rest anywhere along the little black line under the zero.
Looks like you may need a new one.

Just checked it after the rugby and it is full of oil, just a tiny bubble in it. It is annoying me that its not at zero and I have it about 3 years, so I can't really bring it back. It should work after allowing for the offset. I will check it out sometime.

Had another look at my vacuum gauge today and decided to use a bradawl to elongate the hole in the rubber bung. Some glycerine came out and the gauge now reads zero. Just in case someone has the same problem.

Did you press the button under the rubber gland to get it to zero?

I had the same problem with the same guage, I pierced the gland with tiny screwdriver ended up spilling some of the liquid, but found pushing something down (in the workings) moved the pointer clockwise so I kept going till it landed back near the zero. Now I don't trust the fecken readings from it.

I touched the part you mention, but didn press down on it. Releasing the glycerine out of the hole put mine right. I don't think you should have pressed on the part inside. You may have bent something. You may still get use from it. I have only ever used mine to check for line blockages, so exact readings were not important.
