Looking to change a tanker .Down to major or hi-spec 2250 single axle on 30 R32
The hispec is 2300 gal and a bit cheaper (€500) for the same spec
    Any opinions/advice.

If it was me I'd go hi spec, better resale value is reckon and a lot of contractors have them, is it a new tank? If so how much is the hi spec

Major every time! Especially if there's only 500 in it.... Hispec were a bit hit and miss on paint, but may have that sorted now... Hispec also seem to sit higher and may not be as good on hills for that reason...

Isn't the steel in a major 1mm thicker than all their competitors? If only 500 in it its worth it imo.

We got a galvanised hispec last year only a 1350 but well made. Just give a rince out after use and will last forever

100% opposite around here. Major more or less an oddball in this area. Does the major have a swivel drawbar now. A 2.5k major took a fast-trac over in this area a couple of years ago, word was if there was a swivel drawbar the tractor never would have gone.

How does a swivel drawbar work ?

It's not really a swivel drawbar but a swivelhitch. Instead of the standard flat weld on eye used on most equipment the eye has a round shaft with a heavy barrel around it. The end of the shaft has a large nut fitted to hold on the barrel. Its the barrel thats welded to the drawbar. If the tanker capsizes its is free to roll over in either direction without taking tractor with it. They should be fitted to modern silage trailers too. Back on tank selection lads here have 2600 Major and 2500 Hi Spec. Major is preferred. Is easier to pull and has good fall to outlet. Hi Spec is almost flat. Hope you have a heavy lump of a tractor pulling it. Almost 11t of slurry plus the weight of the tanker.

Yeah hi spec were one of first to fit them as they were always turning over! Think major have them now too

Whats in an area I think is largely dependent on location. Hi-spec are made in Co. Carlow so it stands to reason that they will dominate an area around there and Major afaik are manufactured in Galway so the West/mid west may have more of these. We bought a new tanker 1 1/2 years ago and bought a belmac 1650 as they beat their nearest competitors by almost €1500. We could have galvanised for iirc €1600 extra and were tempted but got talked out of it by a rep who reckons in twenty years there will be no farmers spreading their own as it will be all trailing shoe which we could not justify the cost of.

Guess it just depends on the area, Major would be the contractors choice around here, Hi-Spec would be few and far between.

As For the towing ring, If she was gonna go, she was gonna go, More than likely caused by speed and possibly a partly loaded tanker.

Would baffling do anything for a slurry tanker like the fuel tankers

I wouldn't be saying no to Abbey either. Well built machines. Good stubborn engineering in them. :)
