Captains Drive In

Playing tomorrow in 2014 Captains Drive in at Moate. Ceremonial drive off is at 11.30 followed by a 4 person scramble at 12.00

It's a nice way to start the season and you get the chance to play a slightly more relaxed round of golf with people you usually wouldn't normally play all that often with. As it happens I've played with my 3 team mates on a good few occasions over the years.

Looking forward to it and it's a big day for our Captains Eamon Coughlan and Anne Healy.

It is an ancient sort of tradition - I like the idea.

    Ours is in January.

I think -(as a newcomer), lads playing in the same group every week is a problem in golf clubs.
Nice to mix it up in my opinion.

Never been to a captains drive in.

Still think some clubs have a long way to go to make new members welcome.

The athletics Eamonn is Coghlan not Coughlan.

    ??

Our Captains Drive in is a "first come, first served" event, everyone is told about it weeks in advance and whoever gets their name on the list with their fee paid gets to play. It's not invitation only.

Some clubs run 'builders' or 'plumbers' competitions which are usually aimed at new members and or high handicappers just so they can meet other members. That would probably happen more in summer time though. It's up to new members to get themselves known too and not just sit back and expect everything to be brought to their door.

Both Captains hit the ball straight down the fairway on Sunday morning at the Drive In. I'm sure it's quite nerve racking with so many spectators.

Same in our place, you stick your name down, then there is a random draw for the groupings. There might be some invites, not 100%, but its generally an open draw
