Running with osteoarthritis

Have been off the road for 6 weeks with what was believed to be a stress fracture but results of an MRI (yesterday) have diagnosed osteoarthritis in my ankle. I'm not looking for medical advice here as ultimately the orthopedic surgeon I'm being referred to will give me my prognosis. I was wondering if others on here have continued to run while dealing with this condition and what were their experiences? Specifically how they have managed to continue - through physio, orthotics, medication etc. or a combination of the above? Have you had to limit your mileage as a result? Were you advised at any stage to give up running because of the condition?

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis last year which is caused by wear down of joints.Running is my hobby and due to excessive pain in bones and joints,I have to stop running.Doctors advised not to exert your muscles and take caution while lifting or pulling any object that will cause strain.Still I used to run but take enough time in between to take rest.
